How To Build A Home Business Office

You finally did it. You made the decision to start your own business at home. You probably had many reasons. You may have wanted to be home with your kids. You may have someone who you take care of so you need to be at home close. Or perhaps you wanted an easier lifestyle, without the stress of a nine to five job. What ever the reason you have you finally made the choice and you are excited to get started. But wait. How do you get started?

Well first you need an office. It doesn't have to be the traditional"desk, chair and filing cabinet" office. But you do need a computer. It can be a desk top, which would mean having a place for it, or it could be a laptop which gives you more freedom to move around. Either way a computer is a must for any home based business in todays world. The business doesn't have to be internet based either. Any business can benefit from having a business computer. And I do stress the business part. This computer should be only used for your business, not for the kids games and private email. Trust me, you don't want all of your spreadsheets for your business contacts lost forever because your teen down loaded a virus from a game.

Now that you have the computer you need a place to put it and all of the rest of your business stuff. It is great to have a laptop to take with you and be able to move around but you really do need to set aside a space that you can call your office. This space should be clear of clutter from your home so that you can keep track of the clutter from your business. I found having a small corner off me kitchen that is strictly business space helps. Ideally a spare room is nice but if you are like me you have your home based business so you can be with the kids. If you are locked up in a room all day while the kids have run of the house it isn't much more different than going out to work.

One note to add about having a spare room for your office. If you do conference calls for your business or you need to call perspective customers then having a area that you cannot be disturbed is a must. There is nothing that says"unprofessional" then having children fighting over a toy interrupt your call. Find a quite place that you can't be disturbed and then do your calls.

Your new office needs to have a personality. Your personality. Add some flowers or plants, Put up some inspirational posters up. One thing I do recommend is to keep out the things that give you stress. Don't do your bills in the same place you do business. The sight of them can distract you and can cause negative energy. And you don't want negative energy in your work place.

Finally get yourself a nice headset. One that has a microphone built in. That way you can hook it up to your computer or phone and still have your hands free to do other work. I'm all for multitasking.

These are just a few things you can do to set up your home business office. One of the most important things you can do for your home business is have a nice area in your home to do business. And don't forget if you do it right you may even be able to claim your work office on your income taxes. Don't you just love a home business?
